PIBN Social Catch Up - Member Update
This is a short re-cap of the update PIBN provided to members at our Social Catch up 16th August 2022.
A big thanks for the team at Dimples Lounge Bar for hosting us at their beautiful venue. Dimples were an absolute a delight to work with. If you haven’t seen the venue before, please get in touch with Mark & Lila, Lucas and Nick. Downstairs is a stage for the band called the 'fish bowl' a great long bar area, upstairs has another beautiful bar area with plenty of cosy seating and a sunny beer garden out the back with water views. Dimples are creating a really fun environment here with regular trivia nights and lots of great live music. Please show them your support by dropping in for a drink, a made-on-premises pizza or some great live music. Don't forget to let them know you are fellow Network members!
A question I’ve been asked frequently, is what the make-up of our membership is, so you will see in the slides below the break down between service based business, attractions, accomodation, hospitality, retail, and trades.
You might be surprised to see that Service Based businesses are our largest category. This group represents a real opportunity for Business-to-Business engagement. As locals, we will all need from time to time a lawyer, accountant, hairdresser, graphic designer, or yoga class! So I encourage you to head to our Business Directory on the website, look under the category of services and get familiar with our Service based businesses.
And the smallest group represented currently is our trades – this is something we would like to improve; we know there are plenty of wonderful tradespeople on the island and we believe a the network can offer considerable value to this group of people.
You will also see in the slides a snapshot of how and where we are engaging with our members. We have 51 members in the private FB group. We have an email database of 92 business members, and personal phone calls and emails remain a key part of our communication strategy.
We now move onto some more in-depth information from our Successful Wellbeing Grant.
The Network recently applied and was successful in receiving a grant through Business Victoria around “Creating Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace”
With this grant we set out to improve mental well-being by educating, informing, and empowering our Businesses to lead well-being in their own respective businesses and the wider community.
Wellbeing is defined as FEELING GOOD and FUNCTIONING EFFECTIVELY.
As employers, we want our teams to feel good. And when they feel good, the upswing is.. that they function effectively. So by creating an environment for your staff to feel good. You are literally impacting your workplace productivity and profit.
Armed with this information, we were very excited to have two of our Network members undertake a “Certificate of Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace” which involved 15 hours of face-to-face training, 1-1 coaching calls, access to a huge library of information and lots of collaboration with Business Networks Victoria wide.
All resources provided to us are based on the latest science around Wellbeing delivered by the Wellbeing Lab.
The core principle of this work was understanding a framework called PERMAH. Anyone who has spent time in the wellbeing space would be aware of this framework – it stands for:
The word TINY is important also –when it comes to Wellbeing, we don’t need to make radical changes, but instead look to move the dial just slightly. So that it is achievable and repeatable.
Once we were trained up, the steps we undertook in delivering our grant objectives were:
We are also able to provide a standing offer of additional workshops in the future based on demand, or a tailored workshop delivered in Network Businesses Environment – that is, we will come to you.

The core principle of this work was understanding a framework called PERMAH. Anyone who has spent time in the wellbeing space would be aware of this framework – it stands for:
- Positive Emotion
- Engagement
- Relationships
- Meaning
- Achievement
- Health
The word TINY is important also –when it comes to Wellbeing, we don’t need to make radical changes, but instead look to move the dial just slightly. So that it is achievable and repeatable.
Once we were trained up, the steps we undertook in delivering our grant objectives were:
- We created a small brand called the PIBN Wellbeing Series with unique colours, font & wave/ripple graphic. The ‘ripple’ signifies that a tiny improvement in wellbeing has the potential to create a larger ‘ripple’ impact in our community.
- We shared 'tiny' well-being lessons on our social media pages to pique the interest of our audience and improve our community’s literacy of wellbeing. We are in the process of openly sharing this with our followers.
- We created interest in what we were doing through email updates to our 80 strong Business Community and paired this with advertisements in the local paper – thanks Advertiser for your support.
- We then delivered three successful face-to-face workshop events with 20 leaders in the community. These were created as the 'showpiece' of our Wellbeing Series and provided the tools and resources for individuals to LEAD wellbeing in their own lives, workplaces and beyond.
We are also able to provide a standing offer of additional workshops in the future based on demand, or a tailored workshop delivered in Network Businesses Environment – that is, we will come to you.
